ABOUT

WHO BUILT THIS

COMMONS!COMMONS! comes out of years of practical work on how places, economies and organisations change. This is the background behind it.

JENNY GRETTVE
Jenny Grettve

Jenny Grettve is a strategic designer and architect, and the founder of When! When!, a systems design studio in Malmö that tests ideas about social and economic change through real projects.

For more than ten years she has worked with societal systems. She has worked on extensive urban renewal programmes and initiated a new elementary school guided by doughnut economics. Her work on ANON, a new public space in Malmö, won the first Design S award for Design for Systemic Transformation in 2023. Until 2026 she was Head of Transformation at EIT Culture & Creativity, where she led work on resilience and systems thinking across European partnerships.

Jenny holds an MA in Architecture from Lund University's Faculty of Engineering (LTH) in Sweden and RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. She lectures widely.

WHEN!WHEN!

When! When! designs system demonstrators: projects that test how social and economic systems could work differently, in real places and with real partners. The studio's work combines care and hard economics, and focuses on global risks, systems change and possible futures.

HOW THE TOOL WAS MADE

COMMONS!COMMONS! is built on the World Economic Forum's Global Risks framework, the planetary boundaries research from the Stockholm Resilience Centre and more than 50 scientific sources. The five dimensions (climate, economy, infrastructure, technology and time) come from the studio's project work, where the same questions kept turning up together.

WORK WITH THE STUDIO

If you would rather work through the tool with the studio, the Studio tier is led by When! When! in person: one full-day session a year, in Swedish or English, at your location or in Malmö.
